Amboyna Burl Wood

You might think of Amboyna as “the burl with the swirl.”  Thanks in part to its wavy grain, Amboyna Burl is figured with numerous, captivating swirls.

Amboyna Burl wood, which is known scientifically as Pterocarpus Indicus, has been painstakingly extracted from the jungles of Southeast Asia — and often transported (at least initially) via elephant.

A rare, exotic hardwood with a fragrant aroma, Amboyna Burl can vary in color from yellow to golden brown to red, and is generally considered excellent for both turning and finishing.

Notes:

When working with Amboyna Burl, as with any wood, precautions should be taken to protect one’s eyes, lungs, and skin.
